Prof. George V. Hillyer, 1944-2015

 

December 20, 2015. The Institute of Neurobiology was saddened to learn of the passing of Dr. George V. Hillyer, Distinguished Professor, University of Puerto Rico Medical Sciences Campus. Dr. Hillyer was an enthusiastic supporter of collaborative research between the UPR neuroscience and tropical medicine communities. In this photo, Prof. Hillyer (left) is shown with Dr. Dan Colley (Director, Center for Tropical and Emerging Global Diseases, University of Georgia), Dr. Adelfa Serrano (Key Activity Director, RCMI Infectious and Global Diseases Research Program) and Dr. Mark W. Miller (Interim Director, Institute of Neurobiology). Dr. Hillyer delivered a keynote address to the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO / WHO) Schistosomiasis Regional Meeting (San Juan, PR; 21-22 October 2014): Defining the route toward verification and elimination of schistosomiasis in Latin America and the Caribbean by 2020.
