The NSF Partnerships in International Research and Education (PIRE) program celebrated Brain Awareness Week (BAW) by hosting students from the José Julián Acosta School and the Upward Bound Program, Universidad Sagrado Corazón. March 15, 2019. The activity was organized by PIRE Outreach Coordinator Dr. Annabell Segarra and Grant Coordinator María de Lourdes Benítez. Speakers included Dr. Daniel Colón Ramos, Yale University, Dr. Segarra, and Laura Vicente Rodríguez (MBRS RISE). Students also visited labs at the Institute and participated in hands-on learning demonstrations of brain structure and function. Thanks to Wanda Figueroa and Rosa González, Counselors for the student groups, PIRE and Institute students who participated in the demos, and the RCMI Center for Collaborative Research in Health Disparities, co-sponsor of this stimulating activity !
