The Nikon Center of Excellence Confocal Imaging Facility

The Nikon Center of Excellence Confocal Imaging Facility at the UPR Institute of Neurobiology houses a state-of-the-art Nikon A1R laser scanning confocal microscope with Galvano and resonant scanner speeds, four lasers (403, 489, 561, 638), four standard fluorescence detectors (425-475, 500-550, 570-620, 663-738), transmitted light detector (TD) and spectral detector. TD and standard detectors can be used simultaneously or in any order (channel series) to avoid bleed-through. In addition the system has capability for spectral imaging and linear unmixing.

The Nikon Eclipse Ti inverted microscope at the facility has six objectives, low magnification are dry (4x, 10x, 20x) and high magnification are oil immersion (40x oil, 60x oil, 100x oil). The laser confocal microscope system uses the NIS Elements Advance Research 4.5 acquisition and analysis software.

As a Nikon Center of Excellence we receive technical support from Nikon. Training in using the microscope and aid in image acquisition and analysis is provided by a specialist in scientific instrumentation. The center operates from Monday to Friday 8:30am- 5:00pm by appointment. For more information see rules and policies.
