Annual Retreat - NSF PIRE Program

The UPR Partnerships in International Research and Education (PIRE) program held its 4th Annual Retreat using the Zoom platform. Thanks to all students who reported on their research experiences from the summer of 2019. Our External Advisory Committee provided many recommendations and suggestions that will improve the program moving forward.
Institute Students Admitted to Prestigious PhD Programs
Congratulations to two Institute students who will be off to graduate school this summer. Mariela Rosa Casilla will enroll in the Neuroscience Graduate Program at the University of California San Francisco and Anthony Hernandez will attend the University of Texas Southwestern Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences. ¡Enhorabuena! Institute of Neurobiology labs responded to the COVID-19 pandemic with contributions of gloves and other PPE to Emergency Medicine and Internal Medicine residents at the UPR Medical Sciences Campus.

Collaborations forged between Institute of Neurobiology and Worcester Polytechnic Institute
Dr. Jean A. King, Dean of Arts & Sciences, and Dr. Arne Gericke, Department Head, Chemistry & Biochemistry, Worcester Polytechnic Institute, visited the Institute of Neurobiology on October 7, 2019. They met with the leadership and faculty from the UPR COBRE Center for Neuroplasticity to discuss potential collaborations and student exchange initiatives.
